The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a prominent honors show draws close, one notices an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
